We designed three development concept options to ignite public conversation about a Sustainability and Innovation Hub at Lot 12 Bayshore Drive, a key piece of land in the Byron Shire Arts & Industry Estate.
The options conceptualised three distinct visions for a Sustainability and Innovation Hub to support local opportunities to build on emerging industries, particularly in the creative fields.
The Anchor-Based vision imagined a precinct anchored by a key set of diverse offerings, including a highly respected education facility, executive-standard commercial office space, an incubator ‘lab’, a cohousing ‘experiment’, artist-in-residence studios, and mixed-use terraces.
Combining the ‘familiar-with-a-twist’ with the truly unique, this vision was comfortably balanced without sacrificing big-picture thinking and innovative potential.
Drawing inspiration from successful urban centres and spaces in southeast Queensland, the Urbanised vision for the Byron Shire Sustainability and Innovation Hub provided for mixed uses in a robust range of built forms.
With retail, leisure, education, industry and accommodation accounted for, the Urbanised concept brought together diverse people and activities for a truly vibrant hub.
The Reimagined vision took a bold look at the future of the Byron Shire Sustainability and Innovation Hub, envisioning each site as an opportunity to ‘think big’ and be creative.
With larger central buildings, this design concept provided for whole-of-community gatherings, while design features and whimsical touches added human scale and moments of interest.
