This range of diverse housing products for Lend Lease’s masterplanned Varsity Lakes community set the bar for small-lot and innovative housing on the Gold Coast.
Varsity Lakes was innovative in offering a wide range of housing options, from self-contained one-bedroom units to more traditional freestanding homes, as well as town cottages, town homes, warehouses, terraces, SOHOs, lofts, studios and ‘Living Options’.
The ‘Gallery Collection’ comprised a range of distinctive attached or semi-detached homes – often unique – designed to add variety, scale, surveillance and activity to the local urban fabric while echoing the characteristics of the surrounding homes.
This Gallery home at Cape Martin Place received a Special Mention in the 2009 Gold Coast Urban Design Awards, with the jury citing it as an exemplar that ‘stands out amongst this group’ of homes that collectively represent ‘an excellent use of land to influence future building form in the region’.
The ‘Living Options’ homes were ‘multi-family dwellings’ designed to improve choice and diversity in housing by delivering three individual dwellings on a single lot, and exemplify small lot development in the current Gold Coast City Plan.
